Who needs airports, delayed luggage and €15 sandwiches when Luxembourg already has one of the coolest summer festivals sitting right in the middle of Bonnevoie?

From 24 July to 20 August, Rotondes once again transforms into the country’s ultimate summer hangout as Congés Annulés returns for another month of sweaty gigs, cold drinks, late-night DJ sets and those “one more drink?” evenings that somehow turn into 1am.

However, festival passes are already sold out. Of course they are. But don't worry you can still go to individual gigs.

Originally created for everyone stuck in Luxembourg while half the country disappeared to beaches and campsites, Congés Annulés has gone beyond just being a “staycation festival”. It’s now one of the defining fixtures of Luxembourg’s summer cultural calendar, the place where music nerds, after-work apéro crowds, indie kids, families and random curious passers-by all somehow end up dancing together at the Rotondes.

The whole concept remains beautifully simple: great music, affordable vibes, open-air atmosphere and zero pressure. No giant muddy fields. No six-hour drives. Just good sound and good company in one of the country’s best cultural venues.

Luxembourg acts flying the flag

As always, there’s a strong local flavour woven throughout the programme, with several Luxembourg-connected artists and collectives appearing across the month.

One standout is Luxembourg shoegaze favourite Sun Glitters, supporting Irish noise-pop band Just Mustard on 7 August, a pairing that feels almost unfairly cool.

We have bands!

Luxembourg’s legendary math-rock exports Mutiny on the Bounty also pop up in support of cult US band Faraquet on 26 July, while local indie names Full Course Yellow, Daily Vacation, Kakumori and Uncle Leaf all feature in the festival’s free-entry “We Have Bands” nights on 13 and 19 August.

That local-meets-international balance has always been part of Congés Annulés’ secret sauce. One night you’re discovering a little Luxembourg act, the next you’re watching globally respected underground artists in a setting intimate enough to still grab a beer afterwards.

Some other highlights from the concerts

Opening night immediately kicks things off in chaotic style with GANS, Chris Imler and Sheebaba on 24 July. Then the programme bounces wildly through post-punk, shoegaze, psych-rock, experimental folk, spoken word and electro over the next four weeks.

And if your ideal festival experience includes less mosh pit and more sunny courtyard drinks, don’t worry, Congés Annulés has perfected the art of the Luxembourg summer apéro. DJ sets, outdoor seating and laid-back evenings are as much part of the experience as the concerts themselves.

Not just for the cool kids

One of the nicest things about Congés Annulés is that it genuinely feels open to everyone.

The festival’s Family Day returns on 25 July with kid-friendly DJ workshops, DIY merch-making, live hip-hop performances and interactive activities designed to convert the next generation into festival addicts early.

Luxembourg summers would feel weird without it

Over the years, Congés Annulés has quietly become one of those events that marks the rhythm of summer in Luxembourg. You don’t even need tickets half the time, you just drift through Rotondes after work, hear something interesting, stay longer than planned and suddenly your “quiet Thursday evening” becomes a mini festival memory.

That’s probably why people keep coming back every year; not because it tries to be massive, but because it doesn’t.
