Local producer, rapper and all-round sonic architect Turnup Tun has officially received a gold disc for the single “Adria”, his collaboration with Austrian party-rap crew GlueBoys proving that Luxembourg artists are no longer staying inside Luxembourg borders.

The achievement was celebrated by his label, Beast, who posted on social media: “We couldn’t be prouder of this achievement and everyone who helped make it happen. Congratulations to the entire team!”

For those following Luxembourg hip-hop over the past decade, Turnup Tun’s rise hasn’t exactly come out of nowhere. The artist and producer, whose real name Tun Tonnar, has been quietly (and sometimes very loudly) building one of the most impressive résumés in the country since around 2013. From underground rap with Stayfou to sold-out local shows and increasingly international collaborations, Tun has evolved into one of Luxembourg’s most influential modern music exports.

While many still know him primarily as a rapper, his producer credits now stretch far beyond Luxembourg. According to Beast Records, he has worked with artists across Germany and Austria including Elevator Boys, Bibiza, Dream DJ Team and Glue Boys, helping shape a polished, genre-blending sound that moves between rap, hyperpop, club music and emotional late-night anthem territory.

“Adria” itself feels perfectly built for that crossover success. It’s chaotic, catchy, sunburnt and slightly unhinged in the best possible way.

The gold certification also says something bigger about Luxembourg music right now. For years, local artists had to fight just to be taken seriously outside the country. Now Luxembourg producers are helping create viral hits abroad, local rappers are building international networks, and the old idea that success only happens elsewhere is looking increasingly outdated.

This gold disc moment feels symbolic: proof that Luxembourg talent can move from niche local favourite to internationally recognised player without losing its identity along the way.

Not bad for a country people still joke about not being able to find on a map.

What does getting a gold disc mean exactly? A “gold disc” (or gold record) basically means a song or album has become successful enough to hit an official sales and streaming milestone.

These days, that usually includes a mix of Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube streams, digital downloads, and sometimes even physical sales.

The exact number changes depending on the country. In the German-speaking market, which is probably the most relevant for Turnup Tun and Glue Boys, certifications are handled by the German music industry association BVMI. Right now, a single needs the equivalent of 200,000 sales/streams to go Gold in Germany. Austria and Switzerland have their own thresholds too.
