A final duet, a new beginning: NEXT DEED release single ‘Cherrie’

Luxembourg’s alternative metal outfit NEXT DEED have been performing their heavy riffs, soaring choruses and emotional storytelling for five years now. However with their upcoming single Cherrie, arriving on 4 September, the band are doing something they’ve never done before: turning the volume down.

The new track swaps crushing guitars for a stripped-back acoustic sound, putting its heartfelt story, and two remarkable voices, firmly in the spotlight. It’s also the first song to feature new frontwoman Carole, alongside the late Alain, whose final recordings give Cherrie an emotional weight that goes far beyond an ordinary ballad.

A love story with a deeper meaning

On the surface, Cherrie tells the story of a man who falls head over heels for a bartender named Cherrie, hoping she might return his feelings. But behind that simple romance lies one of the most personal songs the band has ever released.

Originally recorded as a rough demo with Alain, the song became an opportunity to fulfil a wish he never got to realise: recording with Carole.

“It felt like Alain and Carole were meant to sing together,” the band explained to scene.lu.

Rather than replacing Alain’s vocals, the band chose to preserve them, inviting Carole to record a second vocal line and transform the song into a moving duet. The result is both a tribute and a passing of the torch.

As the band puts it, what emerged in the studio felt like “a chapter closing, and a new one beginning.”

An old song becomes the newest chapter

Ironically, Cherrie isn’t a new composition at all. It was one of the very first songs NEXT DEED ever wrote, back when the band had its original vocalist, Alex. Although it was occasionally performed live with Alain, it quietly disappeared from the setlist as its gentle atmosphere contrasted with the band’s heavier concerts.

That same softness ultimately became its greatest strength.

NEXT DEED  explained that “what started as an old acoustic song became something completely new - a connection between our past and our future.”

The acoustic arrangement gives the lyrics room to breathe and hints at exciting possibilities ahead, with the band already considering reimagining more of their catalogue for intimate acoustic performances.

A band entering its next era

Founded in 2021, NEXT DEED have become a name in Luxembourg alternative metal, releasing three EPs and a string of successful singles, including three number-one hits on the Luxembourg iTunes charts.

Earlier this year, the band continued its journey following the devastating loss of Alain, introducing Carole as the new voice of NEXT DEED while honouring his legacy through new music and a sold-out Rockhal release show.

Cherrie feels like the perfect bridge between those two worlds: tender instead of thunderous, nostalgic without being stuck in the past, and hopeful about everything still to come.
