Koll an Aktioun: beautiful chaos by old slate mines

Hidden deep in the rugged beauty of Luxembourg’s northwest, something wonderfully wild is about to happen again. From 22 to 24 May, the annual Koll an Aktioun returns to the spectacular Musée de l'Ardoise in Haut-Martelange, and honestly, there’s nothing else in Luxembourg quite like it.

Returning to the atmospheric former slate mines of Haut-Martelange, Koll an Aktioun has become far more than just another weekend festival. It has evolved into one of the country’s most important platforms for emerging Luxembourg artists, underground bands and creative communities who rarely fit into the mainstream.

Set against the dramatic industrial backdrop of the Musée de l'Ardoise, the festival blends music, art and DIY culture into something that feels genuinely authentic. No giant commercial branding. No polished festival clichés. Just creativity, community and a line-up packed with artists doing things their own way.

This year’s edition once again puts local music front and centre.

Luxembourg indie favourites Seed to Tree are among the standout names, bringing their dreamy melodic sound back to one of the country’s most unique festival settings. Elsewhere, Le Vibe continue their rise as one of Luxembourg’s coolest live acts, while Maz Univeze offers up his blend of sharp rap, screams and melodic hooks into a dark but hopeful sound.

There's far too many acts to mention here, so check out the complete line up on the Koll an Aktioun website.

Across the weekend, local bands and DJs share stages with international underground acts, proving just how strong and diverse Luxembourg’s independent music scene has become.

But Koll an Aktioun has never been only about watching bands perform.

The festival thrives on participation. New DIY spaces like “Au Sanglier” invite musicians, poets, comedians and performers to simply jump on stage and create. One moment you could be discovering your next favourite Luxembourg band, the next you’re watching an improvised jam session in an old mining building at 1am.

It’s chaotic in the best possible way.

Koll thrives on its accessibility. Large parts of the site remain free to enter, opening the festival to curious visitors who may not normally attend alternative music events.

Workshops, exhibitions, food spaces and community areas create an atmosphere that feels more like a temporary creative village than a traditional festival. And perhaps that’s why Koll an Aktioun matters so much to Luxembourg’s cultural scene.

In a country where local artists often fight for visibility against international programming, Koll gives homegrown talent space to experiment, connect and simply exist without compromise. It celebrates the weird, the loud, the independent and the proudly local.

For one weekend, deep in the hills of the northwest, Luxembourg’s alternative scene takes centre stage, and it feels completely alive.
